Experience Sylan
The Syl massif and the vast mountain plateaus invite you to come hiking in the summer and skiing in winter. Trails have been created for hiking tours in the summer and they are clearly marked for winter cross-country skiing. The trails go between the tourist association’s mountain cabin hostels in Storerikvollen and Nedalshytta. They also go to other cabins outside the conservation area.

Hikes and Mountain Top Hikes
The “Norge på Tvers” (Norway Across) route along 63° north, goes along LVO. Trondheim Tourist Association has two mountain cabin hostels in Sylan. Storerikvollen lies north of Lake Esandsjøen; Nedalshytta hostel is just outside the protected area in the south of Sylan. Both tourist hostels are staffed during Easter and the summer. There are marked hiking trails in Sylan to Storsylen (1762 moh) and Storsola (1711 moh). There is a panoramic view of the Norwegian-Swedish mountain range from both these peaks. Remember to be sufficiently well-equipped when hiking in the mountains.
Sailing
There are panoramic views of the conservation area from Lake Esand and Nesjøen.
You can book a sightseeing tour or take the regular boat route. The route runs from Nøsteråa via Storerikvollen to Nedalshytta.

The landscape in Sylan is perfect for exploring from horseback. Guided riding tours have been run in the region for decades by Dyrhaug riding centre www.dyrhaug.no

Only the road to Storerikvollen is suitable for cycling in Sylan. Only the road to Storerikvollen is suitable for cycling in Sylan Protected Landscape. It is also okay to cycle the path to Nedalshytta hostel from Stugudalen.

Hunting and fishing
Sylan borders Lake Esand and Lake Nesjøen which are both known for their excellent fishing. There is mostly char, but trout and brown trout are also found. Mushroom and berry picking
In a good year you can find plenty of cloud berries in some areas. In the birch forest you will find mountain cranberries, blueberries, crowberries, and chanterelles.
